The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is reminding livestock producers of the pivotal role they play in protecting animals from serious diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), which has been kept out of the country for over half a century.

CFIA Releases Online Biosecurity Video, April 23, 2010

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has launched an online video as another way to help inform producers about the best on-farm practices that can protect livestock and poultry from disease. This video is part of “Animal Health Starts on the Farm,” an awareness campaign that encourages producers across Canada to revisit their disease control plans, observe their animals for signs of illness, and regularly consult with veterinarians on the health of their animals. Anthrax information for producers (PDF)
Anthrax is an environmental disease caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus
anthracis. Animals on pasture acquire the disease by ingesting soil contaminated with
anthrax spores. There is no direct animal to animal transmission of the disease.
